Each year our students compete against teams from other schools in our district for the title of UIL Academic Champion. Please take a few moments to look over the events we have available and encourage your child to sign up using the link below for any of the teams they might be interested in joining.
UIL Sign-Ups 2019-2020
Sign ups will also be available in each hall and will be open through Wednesday, September 3. A note will be sent home with each student who signs up with information about practice times. Teams are generally limited in size to four members, and coaches will begin working with students to narrow down their teams soon after the deadline.

4TH & 5TH GRADE
Art- Are you interested in art? In this contest you will study masterpieces created by artists throughout history. You will learn to identify forty paintings by their name and their artist.
Chess Puzzle- If you enjoy playing chess or would like to learn, then this is the team for you. The contest will give students chess puzzles to solve in a timed format.
Music Memory- If you like music, sign up for Music Memory! For this event, you will learn sixteen different pieces of music along with the composers’ names. This team always has a lot of fun learning the different songs.
Number Sense- If you are a strong mathematician, this is where you belong! You will learn lost of tricks to be able to calculate quickly.
Oral Reading- For this event, each team member will select a poem to read before a judge. If you enjoy speaking in front of others, make sure you sign up for Oral Reading.
Ready Writing- Students who enjoy expressing themselves though writing will love this event! Team members will be given a two prompts to chose from on the day of their competition. They will respond to the prompt of their choice using their best writing skills.
Spelling- This event is for all of the super spellers out there! You will practice from a list of 300 words to prepare for a fifty word test.
5TH GRADE ONLY
Dictionary Skills- This competition relies on a student's ability to use the dictionary as the name implies.
Listening- In this contest, students listen to a passage that is read and take notes over it. They are then required to answer questions based on what they heard. If you are a good listener, sign up for this event.
Maps, Graphs, & Charts- For this event, you will use all your skills to find information in an atlas and also read information from different types of charts and graphs.
Social Studies- This contest is designed to help you expand your knowledge of history, government, economics, citizenship, and culture.
